02 // Less is
more. Or is it?
Less is more.
It's a phrase a lot of us are familiar with and something many of us have said over time. While I partially agree with that phrase, I think it's important to define where it applies.
Throughout time, Apple has always been the standard for software. Their team has consistently achieved the perfect balance of minimalism, functionality, and emotion.
In recent years, Apple has started to become more aggressively minimalistic. They weren't doing anything wrong in their software; it just lacked emotion.
Emotion is what makes software stand out. Software should feel good to use. It shouldn't feel like a tool or like it's a chore to use; in fact, it should be a very pleasant experience.
Most modern software lacks emotion, put through the cookie cutter of minimalism and laziness. In a world where anyone can make anything, emotion is what makes people stand out.
