Whats contrast again?

04 // Liquid Glass.Whats contrast again?

June 9, 2025 - WWDC

Finally, the day we've all been waiting for.

Apple's software has been the same for a long time, and it was due for an update. Sure enough, we got an update. A huge update.

Liquid glass.

Liquid glass, the new default material in iOS, MacOS, and iPadOS.

Now liquid glass was seen to be coming from a far off. First we had the beautiful UI of VisionOS with its semi transparent blurry backgrounds, which some of us thought would be the new software material. And it turns out, we were right.

Liquid glass gives all of Apple's user interfaces a transparent look, bringing focus more to the app itself, and less the menu's and controls.

I personally have tried liquid glass in iOS, and MacOS in the developer beta and I have to say at first I didn't like it. It was hard to read text and contrast was bad. But with that said, I see a ton of potential. I love the frosted glass look you can get in acccesibility settings, and will probably switch to that long term as its easier to read things, but I love the idea of liquid glass and love that it is bringing a unified design to people who make terrible looking apps.

Is liquid glass a contrast nightmare? Yes, but its only in developer beta as I write this, and all I see is potential.
